Wire- and Sinker-Type EDM and Milling Machines Put Advanced Technology in a ‘Green’ Spotlight

Manufacturers are under increasing pressure to demonstrate their corporate responsibility by earning ecological credentials. The machine tool manufacturer Sodick is leading the way by making environmentally conscious innovation central to its machine and business development programme. As a result, an eco-friendly/green theme will take centre stage on the Sodick stand at EMO Milano, where the company will display machines promoting environmental sustainability. Optimized physical footprints, machine components, and consumables, along with Sodick’s energy-efficient power supply, help users reduce their carbon footprint.

The HS650L 5-axis high-speed machining centre, for example, which incorporates a new 5-axis table designed for high accuracy and high-speed-cutting performance in machining moulds and dies and other precision components, is compactly designed. Not only does it require less floor space; it also helps reduce the use of energy and consumables.

The updated AG range of Sodick wire-cutting and die-sinking EDMs, designed for manufacturers needing extra EDM capacity, is represented by the AG600L wire machine, whose technical benefits include an integrated anticorrosion system based on ecofriendly chemical solutions and an upgraded high-speed LP2WH controller. The AG60L die-sinker has many advanced features that provide for much faster cutting and zero or nanoscale wear on graphite electrodes.

Other highlighted machines from Sodick are the linear-drive AQ750L wire EDM for very large components and, at the other end of the spectrum, the easy-to-use entry-level AD325L wire machine. The latter unit houses the linear-motor drive system, tension servo function, automatic fluid-level control, and automatic wire threader within an ultracompact footprint. In addition, the C32 sinker EDM is making its European debut at EMO.
